About Us

Mission Statement

The Mission of St. Matthias Evangelical Lutheran Church is to allow God to lead us to be a growing community of Christ's faithful disciples and to joyfully proclaim the good news of God's grace and love to all.

Statement of Values

Responding to the love and mercy of God in our own lives, we of St. Matthias Evangelical Lutheran Church are Disciples of Christ Jesus. We are committed to the growing in our discipleship through worshiping, and serving God, and following Jesus' teachings. We hear the Word of God, receive the Sacraments, pray and serve our church community as well as neighbors near and far, fostering spirituality and faithful living.
We are called to go as messengers of God and minister to those in physical and spiritual need, inviting them to hear God's word, know God's grace, and become disciples of Christ, that together we may worship, serve, and witness.
As members of the church body we commit ourselves to using the gifts and resources God has given us, seeking to do God's will and helping one another so that we may become a healthy body that God's kingdom may grow in our midst.

Meet The Team

Pastor Paul Gruesu

Senior Pastor

Pastor Paul has been at St. Matthias since July 2008.  Previously, he worked as an IT Manager for Mellon Bank in downtown Pittsburgh for over 10 years.  His seminary studies included both Pittsburgh Theological Seminary as well as Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now known as United Lutheran Seminary).  As a 2nd career Pastor, his first (and current) call was to St. Matthias!  His daughter Lindsay, who was going into 2nd grade at Maxwell Elementary back in 2008, has now graduated from IUP with a degree in Archaeology, and is currently working as an Archaeologist in Tallahassee, FL!

Amy Repak

Amy joined the St. Matthias team during the summer of 2016. As the daughter of a Lutheran pastor, she grew up in the church office and understands how it needs to be run.

Chuck Vita

Chuck Vita has been St. Matthias' Organist and Choir Director since 2019.  He has directed and played for many congregations and denominations since he was 17 years old. He plays both organ and piano, directs both the Chimes Group, and the Regular Choir, and coordinates the St. Matthias' music program, with various soloists and instrumentalists that perform during the year.  Chuck composes and arranges music to suit the size and capabilities of the groups involved with the music program.
